Magnolias, Amreekans and 'Mericans, Southernish Chicken Rice

This week, I’m thinking about giant flowers that predate bees, cultural specificity, and dinner (always dinner).

Magnolias are in their very short peak bloom in San Francisco right now, and the SF Botanical Garden has a great map featuring the best trees of their large conservation collection. I also share a few magnolia-anchored songs along with a brief update from our own garden in this post.

I caught Wajahat Ali in conversation with Mina Kim on Forum a couple weeks ago and finally read/listened to his new book, “Go Back to Where You Came From.”

The only thing I cooked worth sharing this week was Asha Gomez’s Weeknight Fancy Chicken and Rice. Strongly recommend.

Next week, I wanna try to weave something on an improvised round loom, and I’m hoping to share some difficult thoughts about music streaming. And I’ll probably cook something. See you then!
